Jacob Epstein (1880–1959) Mrs Mary McEvoy (1871–1941) 1909 Mary Spencer Edwards was an artist who trained at the Slade School of Art. She married the portrait painter Ambrose McEvoy, one of US-born Epstein’s first supporter in England. Here, Epstein captures her in a serene pose and uses an expressive, naturalistic style often seen in early Renaissance busts. Her family recalls that McEvoy sat for the bust in candlelight because of an electricity failure. London Bronze(2021)
