Puppet of a Sage, for the show The Feast of Lanterns. This puppet is part of a fine set designed by Elizabeth Waghorn and carved by Beverley Coleclough and Nicola Howard-Jones. The Feast of Lanterns, written and directed by Richard Gill, toured widely for Polka in 1968-1969 and was one of the first plays to mix actors and puppets. The figures are carved in Jelutong.

Puppet of a Sage, for the show The Feast of Lanterns, ca. 1968-1969.
Physical description
Head and neck made of painted and carved wood. Applied hair in wool, applied mustache in wool on stiffened cloth. Ears possibly in leather or stiffened cloth. Wearing a brown and beige striped dress, probably in synthetic fabric, with golden threads. Inside lining in white fabric, probably cotton. Also wearing a hat, possibly made of stiffened cloth, leather or metal card, covered in brown and light brown fabric.
