Master of the Baroncelli Portraits
(active about 1489-1510)
This devotional panel shows St Catherine of Bologna whose body remained miraculously incorrupt after her death in 1463. Kneeling before her are Giacomo Lolani, a Bolognese merchant who commissioned this work, and his wife Elisabetta. Behind, in Flemish dress, is Lolani's first wife Marie. The panel probably hung in a small private chapel at home, next to the principal bedchamber
