MD is probably Maria Denham, sister-in-law of John Flaxman; the hat presumably belonged to Elizabeth Mulready, Varley's sister whom Mulready had married earlier that year and the others may be identified as Matilda Lowry, daughter of Wilson Lowry (whose younger sister was to marry Varley in 1825); John Varley, Hannah Varley (1780-1826), John's sister, and John's pupil and brother-in-law, William Mulready.
