'American and European Art and Design 1800-1900' The Italian operatic composer Giachino Antonio Rossini lived in Paris from 1824 to 1829 and again from 1855 until his death. His house at Passy was a centre of artistic society. Carjat, a friend of Baudelaire, was a notable caricaturist as well as one of the most subtle portrait photographers of the great period in Paris around 1860. This print, like that of Baron Taylor nearby, appeared in the Galerie Contemporaine (1876-1894).(1987-2006)
