Magician's 'publicity banknotes', advertising the illusionist John Palfreyman
Physical description
Four identical novelty banknotes adverting the illiusionist John Palfreyman. Printed in orange and white. On one side a photograph of John Palfreyman, centre, with cartoon figures of genies to each side and, above, the words 'The Illustrious Illusion'; the words 'MONEY TALKS BUT THIS DOESN'T EVEN WHISPER' at top edge, with drawings of playing cards down the left and right sides, little devils at lower edge and to top left and right, and, to right, a cartoon rabbit emerging form a top hat and holding a handkerchief on which are the words 'IT'S FUN'. On the reverse the words 'Bank of Magic / 100 Smiles /ANY RESEMBLANCE TO ACTUAL CURRENCY, LIVING OR DEAD, IS PURELY COINCIDENTAL' in various typefaces and, to right, a circle in which is a drawing of a seven-fingered hand holding coins, surrounded by drawings of magician's trick equipment.
