This Snowman figure was designed by Walter Pötsch for the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Olympic Games. His red hat is traditional in the Tyrolean region, and his cheerful demeanour was intended to capture the spirit of the ‘Games of Simplicity’. The character appeared on pins, as a money box and as plush toys, as well this hard flocked plastic version.

The first official Olympic mascot was a Dachshund called Waldi who appeared four years earlier at Munich in 1972.
