Historical context
Emily Sutton was born in Yorkshire and graduated with a B.A (Hons.) in Illustration from Edinburgh College of Art in 2008. She also studied at York College and Rhode Island School of Design. The artist specialises in illustration of children's books and draws her inspiration from such 20th century illustrators such as Edward Bawden (1903-1989) and Eric Ravilious (1903-1942) and American lithographed children's books. She typically includes in her work objects found in museums and antique shops.

This illustration is characteristic of Emily Sutton's style and technique with a strong use of outside line and colour and pattern. The image is of Clara's mother, Clara and her brother Ollie walking past statues in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
