Study of a woman with an elaborate hairstyle.

Drawing
1741-1825 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This drawing shows the intimate world of the artist, the author of small, private sketches rather than the creator of large canvases destined to the Royal Academy exhibitions. Because he was very much influenced by the theatre, Füssli often depicted his figures with exaggerated expressions and postures, but in this drawing he has captured his own wife in a tender, intimate moment, whilst she is looking at him.
