Object history | Previously catalogued as 'Fonthill Abbey in the Process of Construction.' However, the building resembles the manor house of Southill Park rather than Fonthill Abbey. An oil painting at Southill by George Garrard (1760-1826) which is dated 1803 shows the rebuilding of the house in progress in 1797, and closely resembles this watercolour in all essential details. |
