Gallery label
Inspired by utilitarian photographs that are used as evidence, such as scientific and crime scene photography, Strand says her work is 'about the nature of the medium of photography, its uses and its limitations'. The mysterious images in this series, apparently discovered in some unspecified archive, contain labels and markings that seem intended to clarify what is shown. In fact, these traces of an obscure system of classification or interpretation only enhance their ambiguity. (11/08/2011-27/11/2011)
