This dog belonged to Ruth Esme Lucas, nee Terry, (26/10/1917-20/07/2006) when she was a girl. Ruth remained a life-long lover of animals and was known as "the monkey lady". She kept many of her childhood toys including dolls, a dolls house and several Britains farm animals, and in later years this dog had pride of place in a special chair.

Black mohair toy dog made in about 1920, probably in England
Physical description
An unjointed completely black mohair dog firmly stuffed with wood wool. The stance is somewhere between standing and sitting on its hind legs. The mohair is long with a longer mane and tail. The fur has been cut short in places on the face which has brown and black glass eyes and a stitched nose and mouth. There are two rough overlapping pieces of mohair on the back legs.
