Ron's Eel and Shellfish

Poster
2006 (published)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This poster, created by the artist Bob and Roberta Smith stems from the project 'Shop Local' carried out in collaboration with London based Peer Gallery. For this site specific project the artist painted advertisements for genuine sole traders onto walls in Shoreditch, in London's East End. Inspired by the now faded hand painted advertising signs from the early twentieth century, the new paintings drew attention to the loss of many independent local businesses and the blandness of today's homogenized highstreets.

Bob and Roberta Smith created this poster for Platform for Art. The posters were inserted into advertising sites on the Underground, extending the reach of the project from Shoreditch across the city.
