Place of origin

This vibrant orange brooch is cast from broccoli romanesco by Barbara Paganin (born 1961), a leading Italian maker who teaches in Venice. She has recently made a study of different varieties of cabbage. Here the dramatic fractal patterns of the broccoli are cast in a dental acrylic which allows vivid colour, a new angle on the theme of art inspired by nature.
