A hard-paste porcelain factory was started at Fontainebleau in 1795 and bought in 1830 by Jacob Petit, who had been a decorator at Sèvres. Under him the factory made pieces with floral decoration imitating Sèrves porcelain. It enamelled pieces which came 'in the white' from Limoges and produced some fine rococo-revival work. This vegetable dish imitates rococo naturalism, like the Chelsea tureens in the shapes of bunches of asparagus etc. made in the 1750s.
