  • EWER AND DISH C.!8 & a-1981 'American and European Art and Design 1800-1900' Parvillée represented the French government in restoration work on the mosques and other buildings in Bursa in 1863, following a disastrous earthquake. On return he specialised in making tiles in the Turkish manner and also direct copies of examples such as those on the Green Mosque and Green Tomb, which he presented to this Museum in 1893. This ewer and basin are free adaptations; the form is loosely based upon Turkish originals but the cuerda seca technique of decoration was never applied to vessels, being used solely for tiles.(1987-2006)
