Toy Donkey

1970-1972 (manufactured)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This toy donkey is covered with real animal fur. Its head is attached to its body with a spring, so that when the toy is moved it shakes its head and the bells around its neck rattle. It was bought for Caroline Egan by her eldest sister and fiancé for Christmas in the early 1970s. Due to the increasing interest in animal welfare, it is unusual for children's toys to be made of real fur these days; however, small independent manufacturers can still be found producing toys covered with rabbit or goat fur.
