Dress
Alexander McQueen (1969–2010)
Autumn/Winter 2010

McQueen’s last collection combined his interest in history and fascination with the natural world. This dress is digitally printed with a pattern taken from a German altarpiece, while the underskirt is made from painted gold feathers. The asymmetry of the garment is balanced by a single, printed-silk gauntlet like the one in the painting. McQueen was succeeded in 2010 by Sarah Burton, who designed the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress.
