Back rest for a palanquin of embroidered red silk satin, with gilt and silver threads. The design shows two jumping phoenixes facing each other on either side of a Double Happiness (shuangxi) character, which is executed entirely in gilt metal thread. This is surrounded by bats bearing peaches of longevity cashes and swastikas, interspersed with cloud forms. The back rest is edged with a border of cloud forms interspersed with bats supporting the two lozenge and cash symbols.
