Production
"Women Throooo the Eyes of Smudger Terence Donovan" was the first of only three books of Terence Donovan's photographs published in his lifetime. ("Smudger" a Fleet Street term for photographer, derived from the instability of the black inks used in newspaper reproduction of pictures). The negatives to these images only surfaced recently so they will be shown for the first time in Albemarle Street. The small book of seventeen images was published in 1964, part of a series "Essays in Design" and made in conjunction with the newly formed British Design and Art Directors Guild. The idea was to highlight advances and inventiveness in graphic design and photography. The publications were issue quarterly, but the series was short lived, and they remain scarce.
