The Winter's Tale designed by Sophie Fedorovitch was directed by Peter Brook and first performed at the Phoenix Theatre, London on 27 June 1951. In August the production took a break from its London run to be presented at the Edinburgh Festival where the production was described as 'enchanting' by Eric Johns in Theatre World.'Mr Brook has swept away all the familiar cliches of Shakespearean production...The settings by Sophie Fedorovitch are the escence of attractive simplicity.'
