Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
This is a fashion design depicting a woman wearing a lilac dress and shoes with other pink accessories, designed by Marjorie Field in the 1940s for the haute couture firm Field Rhoades which was registered in the London street directories at 77, South Audley Street, London, W1 from 1948 to 1949. The design appears highly finished, with opaque areas of bodycolour both filling in the pencil outlines, and forming the base for more pencil outlines and shading, which define the forms even further. It is signed with the name of the firm, and the designer has made notes at the bottom left on alternative possible textiles. This design would have been used as a presentation drawing, for clients to decide which model they wanted to have made.
