WARP: cream wool; Z2S; 23 threads to the inch (88 per dm).
WEFT: brown wool; Z spun, unplied; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 20 to the inch (72 per dm).
PILE: wool; 7 colours: dark red, red, dark green, dark blue, dark brown, brown, white; asymmetrical knot, open to the right and tied around 2 warp threads; 230 knots to the square inch (3168 knots per sq. dm).
SIDE FINISH: both sides have one cord oversewn with dark green and dark blue wool.
END FINISH: lower: incomplete but with 1.5 cms. plain weave with cream wool weft. Upper 2.5 cms.plain weave with cream weft with remains of some fringe, 9 cms. max length, each of 5 warp threads plaited but not knotted.
DESIGN: field: brown ground with seven bands each of three guls; at the centre of each is a quartered hexagon in dark red and dark green; the field is red with dark blue horned motifs. Each gul is outlined in white which also frames six blocks of dark red and red on each side; beyond is a green hexagon and beyond that, dark red. There are six and two half bands of secondary motifs each of two and two halves; these are quartered dark red and dark green, each quarter containing a geometric motif. The upper six bands have a chevron in each quarter and in the lower two, a St. Andrew's cross.
The outer gul is quartered white and red and is outlined in dark blue; the whole contains a vertical line in dark blue which extends from the bottom to the top of the field and which, between the guls, bears six or seven red or dark red triangles. On the ground, between the secondary guls, are chevrons of red, green and blue.
Main border: there are rectangles of white and red containing an eight-pointed star (dark red on white and blue or green on red).
Inner and outer borders: opposing chevron sequences centering on a whole white flowerhead or on two halves protruding from the border.
Guard stripe on either side of main border: dark red ground with white diamonds alternating with dark blue or dark green crosses.
Upper and lower band: seven quartered rectangles containing a gul within a brown lozenge. This is the design found inside the main field gul.
Topmost and lowermost band: a narrow one with chevrons.
