Skirt of painted and dyed cotton chintz, Coromandel Coast, ca. 1750
Physical description
Skirt of painted and dyed cotton chintz. The field is white. The main design is of flame-like arches enclosing floral motifs and western figures hunting and conversing. The upper part of the skirt has floral clumps emerging from rocky mounds. The skirt is gathered into a narrow waistband at the top. Along the selvage edge, hidden by the hem, is a blue band.
