The style of this type of tall cylindrical teapot shows that they were made by Newar craftsmen, probably in the Kathmandu Valley. Such vessels may have been made for export to Tibet or alternatively for Tibetan patrons in Tibet. The shape is based on more ancient Chinese doumo hu vessels.

Physical description
One of a pair of monastic ewers, with cover. The ewer is ornamented with silver, copper and brass applied plaques, and bands of repoussé and openwork decoration, containing figures of Tantric deities, and semi-precious stone inlay.
