Brief description | Sideboard, English, 1880-1900, mahogany |
Physical description | Mahogany with inlaid decoration and fitted with a brass rail. Serpentine front and sides with canted corners, fitted with three drawers and supported on rectangular tapering legs. Top and drawer fronts with cross-banded veneer. The front corners decorated with an oval satinwood rosette on an ebony ground. The legs have satinwood stringing with concave top border surmounted by a roundel, and have block bands near the base. The drawers are fitted with octagonal back plates with central rosettes and drop handles with foliate ornament. The brass gallery is suported by four uprights at the back and drops down to two short uprights near the front corners. The uprights have vase shaped finials. |
