Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Lena Bergström (b. 1961) is one of the leading designers at the Orrefors factory in Sweden. She is a successful designer of both textiles and glass, has received numerous public commissions and has won Excellent Swedish Design awards for six of her glass collections.

For Orrefors she designs both vessel glass and limited art glass editions. 'PLANET' is a sculptural form blown in colourless lead- glass, cut and acid-etched, designed in 2004 and produced in a limited edition of 15. It was exhibited at Collect 2004 by Vessel Gallery, London.

Lena Bergström explores the traditional technique of cutting, giving it a new contemporary dimension. The outer surface of the piece has been all over cut in a stretched honey-comb pattern, with a so called 'olive' cutting wheel. The cut surface has been treated with acid to create a matte finish. This outer surface is reflected in the smooth upper (inside) surface of the object.
