John and Sylvia Reid met whilst studying at the Regent Street Polytechnic School of Architecture in London at the beginning of the Second World War. There they formed a relationship which was to sustain them through a fruitful and prolific design partnership until John's death in 1992.

Three Milan Triennale medals and four Design Council awards testify to the virtuosity and breadth of range of their architectural and industrial designs.

'Tricorn stand' with candleholder, cast iron, part of the `Anniversary Ware' range by Izons, West Bromwich, 1960, designed by John and Sylvia Reid. Winner of the Design Council Award in 1960.
Physical description
Black, Anniversary Ware cast iron ovenware. A triformed stand with a central, circular candleholder. Its purpose was to support an Izons, Anniversary Ware casserole with the candle lit to keep the commtents warm.
