The designer Wilhelm (William Charles Pitcher RI, 1858-1925) was one of the most inventive and prolific late 19th century costume designers, whose early passion for stage spectacle led to his employment designing pantomime costumes for Drury Lane Theatre. His attention to detail and his ability to create visually stunning and decorative costumes appealed to producers and public alike and led to a constant stream of work.

Costume design by Wilhelm for for Miss Carrie Coote as Alice Fitzwarren dressed as May Queen wearing a v-necked calf-length pink and white dress with pink cap decorated with flowers. This was Coote's 'No. 1' costume in this production of the pantomime Dick Whittington as performed at Crystal Palace on 24th December 1890.

Designed for Scene 2, the Old Cheapside scene in Dick Whittington by Horace Lennard performed at the Crystal Palace on 24th December 1890. With scenery by Mr F. Fenton, costumes and accessories by Wilhelm, ballets arranged by Signor Francisco, properties by Mr R. Eagle, armour by Kennedy, Phillips, Kahn and Hales, tubular bells supplied by Harrington & Co. of Coventry, limelights by Mr J. Wells, Perruquier Mr Willie Clarkson, costumes executed by Madame d'Orlean, Mrs May and Miss G. Reddich, music composed and selected by Oscar Barrett and produced by Oscar Barrett with Oscar Barrett as Stage Manager, assisted by Mr Arthur Brunt on.
