Artist/Maker

Stage costume for a female dancer, designed and made by Mr Pearl for Angels and Exiles by Matthew Hawkins, 2000.

Angels and Exiles was choreographed for the opening season at the Clore Studio of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and performed from 19-24 September 2000. It was set to Redemption by Cesar Franck with a text by Edouard Blau. The production featured a sculpture of discarded ballet shoes created by Sophia Clist and was lit by Charles Balfour.

Mr. Pearl dressed all the dancers in similar elegant black unisex tunics, tights and helmets. As Ismene Brown wrote in the Daily Telegraph (26 September 2000), 'The dancers were otherworldly black sprites in more of those gorgeously elvish costumes (by Pearl)'.
