The son of the British music hall performer and actor Bert Coote, Robert Coote spend much of his working life in Hollywood after 1930 where he became known for his portrayal of pompous upper-class Briutish types. In 1956 he created the role of Colonel Pickering in the poriginal Broadway run of Lerner and Loewe's musical My Fair Lady.
