Object history
Part of 6 irregularly checked cotton fabrics in different colourways T.159 to E-1988.

Designed by Lida Ascher, this high grade, fine cotton was used by Louella Ballerino (Affiliated Fashionists of California) in Winter 1949. It was suited to resort and leisure wear. Ascher remembered, at the time of the 1987 exhibition at the V&A, that customers loved these prints, but were often not aware that they were attracted by the irregularity of the freely-drawn motifs.
