Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The copper body has an applied silver rim and silver base plate; the neck has a silver liner which is held in place by three small silver plugs. The vase has silver yusen enamel decoration of chrysanthemum and other flowers and a bird (perhaps a type of warbler) perching on a branch of plum blossom. The back of the vase has a flock of four similar birds in flight. The neck rim and foot rim are decorated with silver yusen enamel blossoms and small cloud-scrolls; the neck has a band of cicada-wing lappets and the shoulders and the area above the foot rim are decorated with small chrysanthemums within stylised geometric panels. The whole design is executed on the very dark blue enamel ground typically associated with Hayashi Kodenji, whose stamped mark is carried on the gilt interior of the base.
