Beaton also took some photographs especially for the new Channel Islands stamps, to be released in 1969. The images on this contact sheet reveal that a simple profile portrait was attempted, in keeping with the centuries-old precedent for depicting rulers in profile on coins and medals. However, a more flattering three-quarter profile was eventually settled on.
