This Dutch ornament print was designed by Balthazar Sylvius and engraved by I. Honnervogt. It shows three designs for Moresque style ornament panels, the bottom panel includes a satyr head. In Greek mythology, a satyr was a wood-dwelling creature with the head and body of a man, and the ears, horns and legs of a goat. The Moresque style was developed in Europe in the 16th century as a variation on Islamic arabesque style.
