Danlami Aliyu began his career in 1966 at the Pottery Training Centre in Abuja, Nigeria, which had been founded by the English studio potter Michael Cardew. The Centre was then run by Michael O'Brien, Cardew having recently returned to England. Aliyu nevertheless later trained directly with Cardew at his pottery in Wenford Bridge, Cornwall, and his work demonstrates his influence. This dish was made at Michael O'Brien's workshop in Surrey during a visit to England in 2008.
