Pencil drawing depicting the interior of a drawing room, with three groups of figures arranged in a row; the middle one consists of an old lady seated on a sofa with her daughter, who is hiding her face behind her mother's shoulder; the one on the right is an officer with a wooden leg, a sanctified divine in an apron with his thumbs together, and a third person; and finally Johnson and Boswell in conversation on the left. The stockings of the whole party are tinted grey, and also the soldier's wooden leg. A note in the PDP catalogue reads 'A Satire on 'Blue Stockings?'. The drawing is much larger than the etched series and was not used.
