Galpin's works are produced using a painstakingly delicate process, which begins with a large photograph of a cityscape. Using a scalpel, he scores and peels away sections of the emulsion from the surface of the photograph to create an intricate geometric image. Each image is a unique piece made by the erasure of photographic information, without collage or addition. The 'rhizopolis' of the title is an imaginary city comprised of root-like stems.
