Sketchbook containing landscape drawings in pencil depicting the Mersey, the Cheshire hills, and Parrs Wood, all dated in November 1808, and a series of pen and ink and pencil sketches made at Redleaf in 1811. There are also numerous MS notes relating to the techniques of other artists, including Gainsborough, Claude, Cuyp, Berghem, Hobbema, Ruysdael, Teniers, Vandevelde, Wynants and Zuccarelli. There are also sketches of certain pictures by Vandevelde, Mortimer, Wilson abd Wouwermans. There are notes about atmospheric and colour effects, as well as medical and sundry books. There are 76 leaves in total, with others having been removed at some point.
