Physical description

Gold ring, with an oval bezel with a revolving turquoise intaglio of Venus and Cupid, having a Greek inscription on the reverse. Engraved with the figure of Aphrodite anadyomene standing nude, wringing her hair, head to left, turning towards Eros, who stands in profile on the left, facing her, with a sword (?) in his raised right hand. The hoop formed by three chains decorated with faceting and rosettes.

Greek inscription in six lines: αρρωρρι|θραϲϲινιχ|αροπληξ|αζαραχθχ||.α?]θχαρα|ωζα → variant of αρρωριφρασις, variant of νιχαρωπληξ, unknown voces (tentative reading based on close observation of the gem in March 2017). Reading offered by Katalin Endreffy, Budapest.
