The V&A has many fragments of plasterwork certainly or probably from the Alhambra. They were presumably removed during the extensive restorations of the building after about 1850 and sold locally. There was also a market in copies (or fakes) as this fragment demonstrates. The piece was thought to be genuine until it was found to be coloured with lead chromate, a paint first used in the early 19th century. (V&A Architecture Gallery Objects database)
