This is a panel of stucco from the Court of the Myrtles in the Alhambra. The centre of the panel is a shield bearing the device of the Nasrid dynasty and there is inscription, 'Wa la ghàlib ila alá' in Nashki characters, translated as 'There is no conqueror but God.' The shield is surrounded by arabesque designs and there is a geometrical star-shaped pattern in each corner.

Physical description
From the Court of the Myrtles the moulded and white painted plaster panel is inscribed in Arabic with the Nasrid motto, 'There is no conqueror but God'. The design is made up of floral and vegetal geometric patterns.

The interiors of Islamic Spanish buildings are often entirely decorated in dazzling patterns. The upper walls are covered in plaster, carved or moulded in relief, and often brightly coloured, perhaps in imitation of textile hangings.
