To the left an old man and woman are seated in despair on a rock, to the right, Italy as a woman stands bleeding with dishevelled hair and holding a torn shield and broken spear. In the centre a cupid with bow is carrying off his quiver. In black, on the back an inscription '1536 Di tua discordia Italia il premio hor hai F:co. X Rov', translated as 'Of thy discord, Italy, though hast now the reward.'
