A chalice was used during the Mass to serve the consecrated wine. In this example the foot is engraved with the Resurrection and Entombment of Christ. The medallions show Sts Ambrose, Augustine of Hippo, Gregory and Jerome, the eminent early theologians who were also known as the Doctors of the Church.
