[20th Century Gallery] Screen: Paysage de Bretagne [Brittany Landscape] By Jean Dunand (born Switzerland, French 1877-1942) Lacquer with eggshall decoration Dunand learned the technique of lacquering in 1912 and from 1919 built up a lacquer manufactory which eventuall had a work force of one hundred people. Crushed eggshell decoration was a favourite technique, used here to create stylised landscapes in the Japanese style and later to give texture to his abstract compositions.
