Object history
The title 'Gipsy encampment' was given to this work by the artist at the time of its creation, at the end of the 19th Century. We recognise that the term ‘gypsy’ has been used to refer to a member of a travelling people, but now should only be used to describe people who self-identify as Gypsy.
