Landing at Greenwich

Watercolour
ca. 1780-1825 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Watercolour caricature of the 'Landing at Greenwich' with several naked figures on the beach and tumbling off small boats arriving outside a riverside tavern. The scene is quite risque and bawdy with each man grabbing at the numerous partially naked women depicted. There are also couples visible in every window of the tavern. The facial expressions are all overtly lascivious and cartoonish. The tavern has a sign outside reading 'Letton's Salutation an Ordinary'. Inscribed with title.
