Ring

1650-1800 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This ring was described as Swedish or German, from the seventeenth century, when it was given to the Museum in 1896. It is more likely to be Norwegian, as it was said to have been acquired there, and the sprays of stylised leaves on the shoulders and the religious motif on the bezel are very common on rings of medieval type from Norway. Rings of this kind were widely worn up to the nineteenth century with traditional costume.
