Ring

1800-1850 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This ring was described as from the seventeenth century, and worn by Bavarian peasants, when it was acquired by the Museum in 1872. It may well have been worn in Bavaria, but is more likely to have been made in Upper Austria and to date from the late eighteenth or nineteenth century. Several similar rings, with garnet-coloured stones with triangular facets set in high cylindrical mounts, are known with Austrian silver marks.
