Place of origin |
This painting, a study of camelias in a variety of pink tones, forms an attractive decorative piece. The bold colour of the flowers against the dark background suggests the style of Dutch still-life painting from about 1600-1700.
John Charles Robinson is perhaps best known as an art collector rather than an artist. He was also a museum curator, first at the Museum of Ornamental Art at Marlborough House and then at the South Kensington Museum, later the V&A.
